XO - Asian Restaurant

It's been a long time since my last post, I guess my life isn't as interesting as I thought. :)

The first day at work after a 3 week long vacation was a real hassle. Moving into the new buildings, starting to setting up the network might have been fun, if someone had done their work properly. Telenor, which was supposed to finish their work at friday LAST week, hadn't even been there when I got there today. Someone showed up to do half of their job at 12 o'clock. Right, we do not have an internet connection now - just what I need, when users are breathing down my neck. So, a couple of telephones to try to sort that out, without really getting any further information on WHEN they intend to get their job done.

Oh, and did I mention that there was no power? That's right, we where supposed to get everything up and running today, but there we are, 3 out of the 6 points where without power. Splendid! Another couple of telephones to get THAT sorted, but it was quickly arranged when I got in contact with the one in charge of that department.

There where no plan to give me a key to get around the building. But after a short argument with someone, who really wasn't eager to hand over the key, I got one.

This crap was on top of me getting NO sleep last night, so right now I've been up for 32 hours. You might say I have quite a short fuse today. There where no cooling system installed as promised at the server room.

Where was I? Oh, yes ... The new apprentice arrived today as promised. I think he'll be a great asset. He's polite, eager to learn and seems to be quite intelligent - a very positive experience so far.

I had one, very plesant experience today - dinner! I tried a new restaurant today, they've only been open for about 2 months, but it was recomended to me, so I skipped my usual Asian place to try this new one. I have NO regrets! NONE!

The atmosphere is like the usual Asian restaurant. Dim lighting, the usual hanging black and red chandeliers, china in white with blue dragons painted on them. I ordered WonTon as starter and Duck with garlic and chili.

The WonTon, didn't really contain any of the usual dumplings, but instead had scampi in it. It was perfectly citric and carried quite a punch. When I say it carried quite a punch, it really does, because I can tolerate spicy food, very well. I would not recomend it, if you do not like spicy food. It was perfectly spiced to my taste. It's honestly the best WonTon I have ever had!

The duck was perfectly cooked. It was jucy, yet crispy on the outside - I couldn't have done it better myself. It was marked on the menu as spicy, three dots, on a scale of five. It had the same rating as the WonTon, but honestly, it was not spicy at all. The WonTon carried a plesant punch, the main course did not. It did however have quite a bit of garlic. It was not the stingy taste of garlic, but rather the sweet taste of garlic, just as it should be. It was served with thinly chopped carrots, water chestnuts, onions and baby corn, if I remember correctly. As in all Asian cooking, the vegetables was still "al dente".

The starter was NOK50, the main course was NOK162, with 0,5L of Coke a grand total of NOK247 or USD 41,40, an acceptable cost for a meal like that. I think this is my new favourite Asian restaurant. Highly recomended, quick service, delicious food. Two thumbs up! I kinda like the touch of family business too. It's not the usual professional waitresses, but rather the daughter(s?) waiting the table. I like that, since it feels a little more personal - I don't really like that high-class white collar stuff. I want great food withouth getting robbed at the "till".

Enough of my ramblings, just GO THERE - you will not regret it.

Homebrew!

Pictures of the first batch of the bitter chocolate coffee stout. Everything is perfect, colour, foam, smell - yes practically everything turned out perfect, except taste and body. Not as creamy as we aimed for, but it definately carries a punch - it do contain alcohol.

Since it is partly bottle fermented, it may still develop. Some of the bitterness is gone. We are entering it in a contest, which will be interresting.

Cheers, felicidades, sante or whatever you say where you come from.

homo erectus 005 - AGW

All right, I'm hoping this turns out at little better than the last one, dont know though. Will be doing some changes later I think, this isn't really working out the way I was hoping, maybe those Wacoms might work in VM, who knows - one will have to try. Been having some major issues with wi-fi at work lately, think I have it sorted now, but only time will tell. Well, I hope you like todays issue. The funny thing is, these cartoonish drawings at least make me update my blog. :)

Lack of sleep

I'm quite happy with my new pen. I can read it just fine, and I hope you can too.

Busy, busy, busy

My work schedule so far today has been busy - I'm just about to choke on a sandwich, so no news today, just uploading this thing right here.

Well, this is todays little rambling. I'll be getting a new book and pen today, if I can find the stuff I want that is. Today hasn't been very interesting, woke up at 9:42, didn't really understand where I was and how the heck I could have sleept through 5 missed calls from work. Geez, guess I just needed the extra sleep. Well, that's it, hope you like the new pice, and I wish I could learn how to draw.

homo erectus

So what do you do when you find yourself at work with nothing to do? You've just gotten the new server up and running, services have been moved and by some stroke of devine intervention - everything works perfectly! I didn't know what to do, and suddenly found myself droodling - this here is the result - the first piece of "homo erectus". I really don't know how to draw, which is pretty much obvious, but I actually had a lot of fun doing this, so maybe this will be a regular thing, who knows?

AGW

For those who does not know what AGW is, it's a short for Anthropogenic global warming - it's the notion that human emissions of CO2 is one of the main factors of the raising global temperatures. They say there's a scientific consensus concerning this and they might be right. What do I know, I haven't been to the poles to check if the icecaps are melting or anything.

What I can say though is this - it sure as hell doesn't seem like there is any warming going on outside my bedroom or office windows. Rigth now, we are experiencing some 20 degrees below zero, the snow is all squeeky and my nose froze to ice during the two minute walk from my office to the gas station. So I'd be happy to see some warming here. I thought, well - the rest of the world must be getting a hell of a lot warmer, since it surely isn't getting warmer here - well the latest news stories tells another tale. Europe is covered in snow, it's so fricking cold, that people can't remember the last time we experienced so much cold weather. Global Warming my ass, actually - that wouldn't be such a bad idea, since I'm freezing my bums off at the moment.
